A new sea link bridge from Ennore to Poonjeri on East Coast Road (ECR) to decongest traffic and ensure better connectivity is likely to come up near Chennai soon. The Tamil Nadu government had announced a feasibility study for the project, with an allocation of ₹2 crore in the next fiscal.
State Highways Minister E.V. Velu, confirming the proposal, noted that the sea link would provide another route for motorists going to Puducherry. The project is expected to considerably reduce travel time and improve transport facilities in the ECR Corridor.
The new bridge, officials say, will not only lessen the load on current roads but also facilitate economic growth by increasing accessibility for businesses and commuters. The study will determine the technical and financial viability of the project before proceeding.
Infrastructure projects like this will be needed for sustainable development as the urban landscape of Chennai expands. Once approved, the Ennore-Poonjeri sea link will not only be a critical transport link but will also provide much-needed relief to thousands who commute daily and promote regional connectivity.
