JK Cement has commenced commercial production and despatch of its low-carbon Portland Calcined Clay Limestone Cement (LC-3) in its Mangrol plant in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district. In alignment with India’s efforts towards eco-friendly infrastructure development, the firm wishes to sell LC-3 as an eco-friendly next-generation alternative to conventional cement.

Unlike Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), the LC-3 cement, which is certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under IS 18189:2023, is specifically designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40%. The product has a definite plus when it comes to lowering the carbon footprint without losing strength or longevity due to its 50% clinker, 30% calcined clay, and 15% limestone composition.

The new product offering from JK Cement augments its more comprehensive sustainability strategy, which has four key pillars: resource efficiency, circular economy, decarbonization, and sustainable innovation. The company says the LC-3 variant will be central to large-scale infrastructure projects in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and elsewhere, significantly driving the growth of green building in India.

The introduction of LC-3 represents a milestone along our path to climate-friendly construction practices.” “It demonstrates our strategic turn toward long-term financial sustainability and sustainable manufacturing.”

Also, with increasing environmental regulations and investor appetite for ESG-aligned operations, the launch fits the sector’s increasing requirement for low-emission building products.

JK Cement has become part of a rare but growing list of cement manufacturers in India that are launching next-generation products to market that balance environmental footprint and performance. The adoption of LC-3 cement, say industry insiders, has the potential to transform the reduction of emissions for the construction sector, which remains one of the largest emitters of carbon worldwide.

JK Cement’s status as a green leader and a competitive force in the fast-evolving cement industry is expected to be fortified with the launch of LC-3, with infrastructure spending soaring and climate change issues mounting.
